Renewable Energy Companies Knowledge Base
Can you make money by buying stocks of renewable energy companies? since global warming and the need for more greener energy like wind power increases, is it really possible you can make lots of money by buying these companies now that are worth virtually nothing, and wait until the world gets the need of renewable energy? (buying shares of stocks). Thanks
Why can't the Federal Govt increase subsidies to renewable energy companies instead of passing Cap and Trade? All they have to do is increase their subsidies and incentives to companies in the renewable energy industry, create an easy to entry barrier with full Govt support, these Co.s will then invest the money in R&D and very soon there will be the advent of a new breakthrough in technology which will be cheaper than the current energy sources we have today. This, in place of taxing CO2 and every molecule out there with out including H2O and O2.
Renewable Energy Companies? What are some Renewable Energy Companies? I am not looking for a job it's just for homework so tell me some big renewable companies. THX
Why don't more people call their energy companies and switch over to a "renewable" energy source? Such as solar or wind. Most energy companies provide you with a list of sites of renewable energy providers you can easily switch over to. It's only 7-15 bucks more each month! And you're doing something good for the earth, isn't it worth it? just so everyone knows. I make minimum wage at a hotel. I can afford 7-15 bucks more a month. FredHH- So now I'm stupid for wanting to do somthing good for the environment? (Not to say that I don't do everything else in my power like ride buses or bikes whenever I can, recycle etc. etc.) And even if thats the case and there's a huge conspiracy going on with my local solar/wind farm (which I doubt, I'm sure it's not as simple as you seem to think it is) What is the harm and how does it make me stupid in trying to do something good? I think you're the ignorant one here. At least I'm TRYING to be apart of the solution and not the problem. can you say the same for yourself?
How to purchase and use Renewable Energy Certificates? Can someone please explain if and how I can buy renewable energy certificates for my apartment electricity use. My local energy company does not currently provide renewable energy and I am under the impression I can buy certificates from renewable energy companies and use those certificates to pay for my current electric bill. Can you please explain this process.
Planning chief John Saunders in charge of 400 billion has shares in renewable energy companies? . . . is this a possible conflict of interests> The infamous magazine, Private Eye (issue 1257, p.27), reports that John Saunders, the head of a new government appointed body set up take planning consent issues away from local councils has shares in many of the companies whose proposals he will supposedly be reviewing. The Infrastructure Planning Commission will take its direction from the Department for Energy and Climate Change (seriously, that's its name) and will have a budget of £400 BILLION! - that's about six hundred billion dollars - over the next decade. As the Eye reports: [QUOTE] ------------------------------------------------- ""Those likely to be affected by the turbines to come will at least hope Saunder's commission makes its decisions impartially and transparently. So it is not reassuring that it recently refused to release details of its commissioner's financial interests, telling the Eye that it was 'personal information protected by the data protection act'. This was always nonsense, and the Eye has now forced a detailed response from the commission using freedom of information laws. The details perhaps make the reason for the initial secrecy clearer. Saunders has declared shareholdings in the following companies: National Grid, National Power, Powergen, Innogy and Northern Ireland Electric" ----------------------------------------- As these companies have detailed proposals (such as Innogy's application for two massive wind farms) up for review, is it right that the guy appointed by the Dept. for Energy and Climate Change has shareholdings in the very same companies? Could this be known as "Pulling a Gore"? And why is it that you can only get information on anything to do with climate change by suing in court using freedom of information laws? Isn't the idea to spread the truth? .
Any renewable energy company in Brisbane hiring? Researcher/ Engineer/ Business analyst available.? Good Day, I would like to introduce myself as Eric Chua, a recent Electrical Engineer graduate from the University of Queensland with 2nd Upper Honours and the winner of the Best Thesis in Power Engineering 2006 among five universities in IEEE Queensland. I am currently a self funded wind power researcher. It would be great if you could help by advising or suggesting some companies in Brisbane, Australia which have a focus on Renewable Energy (esp Wind) technology. Also, I will really appreciate it if you think there is someone I could contact in Brisbane. It would be great if you have any information about this. Much Thanks, Eric Chua Brisbane, Australia
Have oil companies been in denial for a long time about alternative and renewable energy? There has been the technology around for a while now that could of helped our dependence on forgien oil. It seems to me many oil companies have resisted because of possible competition from new alternative energy companies. Let me put it this way, if there is only on way to power your car those companies that sell it have you by the gonads. I along with oil man T. Boone Pickens feel that peak oil is for real and needs to be addressed. If you look up his name on the internet you can pull up his plan for the future. I am impressed that an oil man has finally came to his senses. He wants to replace our electrical power we get from natural gas with wind power and inturn take the natural gas and use it to power our cars. This would be used in some cars and gas in others. This is not a cure all but it would help us for at least 20 years. THis would lower the cost to run our cars and also buy us time to come up with new types of energy. This should be at the top of our list in this election.
I want to know more about renewable energy in Singapore.? I am researching on renewable energy. So far I know Singapore has implemented biomass, solar energy and fuel cells. The problem that I am facing is that when I search the net for renewable energy, all the information given are not within Singapore region. I need someone to tell me where can I find more information on renewable energy in Singapore. Do anyone know which companies uses renewable energy? Who can I find to know more about the topic? Is there any other students doing major project on renewable energy? If yes, email me. I hope to work together to produce good results. Thanks a Lot!
How dependent might we become on Tribal Energy Companies? As we seek renewable energy resources, I foresee that Native Americans with resource rich reservations might gain a lot of influence in the energy market. I am writing a research paper on this topic. I would greatly appreciate any links, sources, or info.
To the doubters of global warming, would you buy renewable energy? I hear you, you are sick of Al Gore and aren't convinced in the science behind global warming. But would you buy renewable energy anyway, since it pollutes less? Even if it cost a little more? Say $5 extra a month for 200KwH if your Electric Company offered it? It would be nice if congress passed a law that required Electric Companies to offer renewable energy so that at least you would have the option to buy renewable if you wanted to?
What companies do solar energy research? I'm looking into companies that are researching solar/renewable energies, particularly in California. What companies are doing a lot of R&D in this area? I'm looking for a career. I'm about a year away from my BS in Electrical Engineering and I'm interested in a job in renewables R&D after graduation.
Master in Renewable Energy? Hi everyone! I'm an undergraduate student with a Bsc in Business Administration. I really would like to work for an renewable energy company in my future (such as Solar, wind.....). What could be the best University path (Msc/MBA...) to obtain the necessary Skills required from this kind of companies? -Should I just take a Msc in Business Administration/Entrepreneurship/New business Development and then just try to get in some company -Or should I start to specialize myself already, getting a Msc in Renewable Energy or Sustainable Development? In this case could u advise my some University around Europe? Thaks a lot! See u everybody! So "Thanks a lot" my friend... :)
Is it true that Oil companies are preventing the use of a renewable energy that would put them out of business? Im hearing there is a renewable form of energy which is known that can stop the need of using all forms of fossil fuels and alsot that nazis were using something to power 60% so if this is true what are we doing Well I ask this because of idiots at work: I hate conspiracys because they almost sucking you into them and its hard to tell the delusions from the reals as they never get to weird to not beleive Well this one is that the big oil companies know there is a renewable energy source which can replace all fossil fuels and rather keep us paying so much as we have already gone past half the Earths amount of Oil they can charge more as the amount decreases and they also say Global warmingh is just the governments way to divert out attetion this is why I cant beleie these idiots who tell me this Why the fuk would they use global warming as a way to divert our attention from them not using this great renewable energy which is better than oil they already have umm wouldnt it makes us push the government to find the best renewable energy quicly loool dont you think global warming and the oil prices goin up are the factors which made this conspiracy occur in the first place so the though of it being a way to divert our attention in fact is create these conspiracys Can someone give me facts that these guys are wrong I dont like having idiots make me think this hard on conspiracys as threes to many of them agreeing and making me sound dumb
Why is important for business to use renewable energy? Why is important for 'business' to use renewable energy? What are the advantages and disadvantages? Do you know a company that uses renewable energy and has reduced its carbon footprint? And one that doesn't and is considerably contributing to global warming etc
Why's Obama a hyopcrite who unrealistically wants to force oil companies to invest profit in renewable energy? http://my.barackobama.com/page/community/post/samgrahamfelsen/gG5gJ2 As Mitch McConnell says, technology and innovation will help create more (and enhance existing) renewable energy sources but you also need the "more drilling for oil" component. And yet Obama has taken money from oil company executives and their spouses: http://www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/obamas_oil_spill.html maxmom: I never said oil was the only component; I said that I think the "free market" can best produce profitable renewable energy sources, yet Obama purposefully neglects to mention "drill for more oil" as just ONE (but a critical) component because it doesn't jive with his liberal base. Noah: Count me as part of the "Jesus right".
Confused about Renewable energy...? I am going for a job at a renewable energy company. You don't need experience but I like to do research for any job that I am going for and this one has got me stumped. Can someone please explain (in very simple terms because the internet pages do not help me, just confuse me more) what renewable energy is, and any examples that might help me better understand. Thank you :)
Do oil companies really own the world? Oil is one of the most precious commodities in the world. But do Oil companies really have as much power and control as the liberals would have us believe? Do they really influence elections, have certain politicians on their payroll, obstruct the development of the electric car and are they really buying up all the renewable energy companies? Or is this all conspiratorial liberalist bullshit? In response to a comment on the electric car: Look, I'm sure it's possible to build an electric car that's much more efficient than the ones that have been released commercially. Think about the other stuff electricity does and you're telling me that nobody has been able build something that rotates 2 axels at a high speed and carries people around without having to charge every few miles? I find that hard to believe.
Should we invest in renewable energy and alternative fuels? Lawmakers only focus on these high gas prices. I think they should look into investing funds into renewable energy and alternative fuels. This is the only way we can successfully become energy independent. And these fossil burning fuels are ruining the environment. For example they could put _______ billion dollars into automobile companies so they could lower the cost of hybrid cars, and _____ billion in the production of these vehicles.
About the coming renewable energy boom? I read something on the motley fool about how the big stock market boom of the last decade was the internet. I also read that the coming clean green renewable energy boom will be bigger than the internet by an order of magnitude. This means a multiple of 10. What does it mean by this do you think? Does it mean that stocks will go up 10x their value or will there just be 10x more companies than the internet ever had? What does it mean?
Sceptics: are you aware that even the big energy companies believe in climate change now? . NRG Energy has recently won up to $154 million from the Dept. of Energy to help it install a system to capture carbon dioxide emissions from ONE of it's coal-fired power plants. As the Dallas News article reports, this follows the company signing up to join the Climate Action Partnership and testifying before house and senate committees writing climate change legislation. The 154 Million Dollar grant comes after the company also spent under one million dollars on lobbying on climate change in Washington: [QUOTE] -------------------- ""The New Jersey-based utility spent $910,000 on lobbying in 2009, according to Senate records. It spent $300,000 just during the fourth quarter of 2009, when it lobbied on a host of incentives available to energy companies, including loan guarantees for nuclear plants and renewable energy projects. NRG has maintained its membership in the U.S. Climate Action Partnership, a group of businesses and environmental organizations that played a big role in shaping the House bill."" -------------------------------------------------- And the best bit of news of all? NRG Corporation intends to sell the carbon dioxide it captures to big oil companies so they can inject it into the ground to extract even more oil! Treble whiskies all round! ~ So, sceptics, do you admit that even the big oil and energy companies "believe" in climate change now? Looking for a course in renewable energy? Hey ya Folks, Just a quick Q.. I am looking to do a course in renewable energy, (mainly interested in Wind and also Solar) either as a distant learning course, or part time one based in Ireland..Is there any uni or collage that does offer a diploma, short cert or any sort of course.. But not one of those 2/3 day things.. Something with abit more meat, but not over a yr long.. Oh.. It would also have to have some sort of award attached to it, fetac, city n guilds etc etc... cause I want to go into field sales rep for either a wind turbine or solar energy companies and learn from the ground upwards... King regards Will Griffith...........
an electrical engineering can work on renewable energy? I want to know if electrical engineering is the right choose to work on renewable energy like bio-diesel.biomass or hybrid technology also I want to know if an electrical engineer could lose his job when he become older for instance computer science company hired younger people is the same with electrical careers? thanks
Who is working on the renewable energy problem? Can you imagine a green home power plant that was practical enough that every home could install one....wow no more transmission lines no more electric companies... when i saw a commerical about the car that ran on water...i immediatly wanted one of those cars just to tear out the engine to connect to a generator and finnaly cut my power line to EDISON. but it was a hoax...damn.
Feasibility of renewable energy? It seems many on this forum are now pushing for a "renewables only" solution. Are these individuals being played by big coal or could renewable energy alone actually power America? Is it now realistic to assume that renewables could provide baseload in the US? Is refusing to deregulate nuclear energy exactly what the coal companies want?
Given UK's desperate need for renewable energy, isn't it time we crushed the NIMBY brigade? The windfarm factory on the Isle of Wight has closed (500 jobs lost) because NIMBY objectors made the company's UK operations unprofitable. The Severn Barrage project is continually delayed by skilled and selfish stalling of planning processes. It's the same all over Britain; those objectors want the benefits of low-cost energy and to ride their hobby-horses as well. Our oil and gas is running out; Thatcher destroyed our coal mines. Where DO those NIMBY people think our energy will come from?
I am looking for a renewable energy engineering job in Brisbane, does anyone know any company which is hiring? What will it take to change the way we consume energy on a mass scale? From oil to coal we seem to be consuming energy from non-renewable sources. Do the major energy companies have a solution for a post-oil world? Does industry have a plan in place for producing goods when the lights go out? Are we just going to sit around and wait for the wells to go dry?
How can I get a career in the alternative energy/renewable fuel industry? I have a Bachelors degree in Business Administration with a concentration in finance and an MBA with a concentration in marketing (both from traditional universities). I am interested in this field and have even considered going back to school to get a degree in environmental engineering. Does anyone know any companies that could use someone with my educational background? or do you have any tips on how i could get into this industry?
Does anyone know where I can advertise my "GREEN" energy product online? I am a marketing consultant with a energy company that has a Certified Green Plan provides electricity service that’s Green-e certified to reduce the environmental impact of the energy you use. This product is available in Texas and New York. I really want to advertise on the internet where I can spread the word on our renewable energy product. The environment is so important to me and our company and I just want to get the word out on how people can contribute in a small way to help save our planet.
How do you feel about the worldwide interest/development of nuclear energy....Approve/Disapprove/? Nuclear Power Companies Booming Worldwide British Energy pulled off an incredible feat last week of announcing a barnstorming 145% rise in profits. BE, which generates one-fifth of the UK's electricity, is also expected to have a major role to play in the process of building the next generation of nuclear stations - assuming management can demonstrate that they are up to the task. Nuclear energy companies are thriving, due to the clean, cheap and efficent manner in which Nuclear power can be generated. In other recent news, an upstart Alberta company, which includes oil patch heavy hitter Hank Swartout as an invester, has a deal with Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd. to market the Candu nuclear reactor to firms in Calgary looking to operate oil sands projects. The use of nuclear power is controversial because of the problem of storing radioactive waste for indefinite periods, the potential for possibly severe radioactive contamination by accident or sabotage, and the possibility that its use in some countries could lead to the proliferation of nuclear weapons. Proponents aver that these risks are small and can be further reduced by the technology in the new reactors. They further claim that the safety record is already good when compared to other fossil-fuel plants, that it releases much less radioactive waste than coal power, and that nuclear power is a sustainable energy source. Critics, including most major environmental groups believe nuclear power is an uneconomic, unsound and potentially dangerous energy source, especially compared to renewable energy, and dispute whether the costs and risks can be reduced through new technology. There is concern in some countries over North Korea and Iran operating research reactors and fuel enrichment plants, since those countries refuse adequate IAEA oversight and are believed to be trying to develop nuclear weapons.
Where to start for Investment Banking hopefuls? I am a college junior with a summer's experience in investment management of renewable energy companies. Where should I look to gain knowlege in career advice for investment bank analyst? A specific reference to website, forum or books would be appreciated.
Can you justify giving Oil companies a tax break? The house today approved a tax increase bill for oil companies and incentives for renewable energy and conservation efforts. I think this is 100% fair as these companies make on average 40 Billion dollars in profits each year and do little investment in alternative energy sources or conservation. However, some republicans called this "the pure venom ... against the oil and gas industry." Can you come up with an argument to justify giving these oil companies huge tax breaks? Dear TaxMaven, The oil companies were previously given many tax breaks by the current administration in past years. Why? They had high profit ratio, it wasn't like the tax breaks that were given to airline companies after 9/11 because they were consistently making a loss. The current bill seeks to reverse some of those wrongs done by the current administration. Your response "If you want to reduce the need for oil...[other silly comments]" shows a total lack of (ability to?) comprehension of the spirit of the question. Again I restate... can anyone justify giving an oil company a tax break. Especially considering that demand for their product is rising. Thanks for your answer Gary... but let me clarify my position to you an others. The issue was not with the profit, power to them if they make lots of money (it makes their stocks goo long-term investments). My issue was why were these given tax breaks by the Bush administration?? It doesn't make any sense to me... their profits were soaring... what justified giving them a tax break??
idea for implementing renewable energy? The government buys the major oil companies. Then uses the massive profits they are currently amassing to implement renewable energy sources(wind, hydroelectric, solar, etc.). Good idea?
Companies dealing with energy ? Hi, I am a masters student in Columbia University, specializing in energy based systems. I have a mechanical Engineering background. I have started looking for a job in related areas. Can you suggest me companies in the US who would be able to use my skills - areas related to renewable energy/ fluid mechanics, CFD / heat transfer.. I know that there are many companies that deal with such areas.. But I am right now collecting the names of such companies, so that I can look them up and apply to them in case I am interested in the stuff they do. (Basically, I'm short of names :).. Hope you can help me out. Thanks!
What do you think of Republicans screewing us again for big oil companies? The tax changes would have channeled $11 billion over 10 years into development of renewable fuels such as ethanol, biodiesel and power from wind turbines. It provides an additional $18 billion in other tax breaks — from tax credits to clean and renewable energy bonds — to support improvements in energy efficiency, clean coal technology, development of gas-electric hybrid cars that could be plugged into the national power grid and other alternative energy programs. Major oil companies would have paid most of the tab. REPUBLICANS REJECTED THE CHANGE AGAINST DEMOCRATS 57YES-34-NO VOTES....60 VOTES NEEDED TO PASS
How can u invest in renewable? Can u give me some steps to tell me how to invest in it? ITs for my project. And can u give me some companies names that are helping enhance renewable energy.
Are big oil companies fighting the"green" energy industry? When I hear of the profit levels these companies make it seems that it should be obvious that the revenue be invested in Solar projects and wind generation energy and other renewable energys. Then we wouldn't need oil from anywhere. No use for oil means no use for any more to do with the Mid-east.
Dems taking oil profits for Renewable Energy? Theft? Socialist? This goes against our Classified Energy Policy. Stealing and investing oil corporations money in their greatest enemy, renewable energy - is that socialism? I think this goes against everything Our President Bush stands for. Technological advances in renewable energy will only make it cost effective vs. oil and destroy oil companies and entire political power structures. Americans neither need nor deserve renewable energy, they should never be allowed to go off grid. Freedom isn't free and off gird energy is too much freedom!
Why havent taxis been forced to change to hybrid vehicles/ renewable energy/ greenhouse gas friendly fuels? With all the concern over climate change, greenhouse gas emmisions and rising petrol costs, taxi companies are not using environmentally friendly vehicles. Shouldnt the government be regulating the taxi industry and forcing a change to "greener" alternatives. I realise that many of the contributors to this site are from the USA. I was asking about the Australian Taxi industry. Taxis may initially cost more as the change is made, but, some of that cost would be offset by the fact that these vehicles are more fuel efficient than the big 6 cylinder cars that are currently used and the rising costs of petroleum products. The Taxi industry in Australia is already regulated, through licensing and fixed metered pricing. The change to eco friendly vehicles in Australia for taxis would have a roll on effect to domestic vehicles due to the size of the Australian market, encouraging the automotive manufacturers to supply affordable eco friendly vehicles to the Australian public.
Looking for an ethical company to invest in? I have a small amount of capital id like to invest in a company who is really doing great things for the environment. Im not talking about massive oil companies who have introduced a 5% renewable energy policy, but companies that are actually making a difference throught the use of sustainable development, a company that can be trusted and will still be here 100 years from now, any ideas... thanks guys
Are those stupid little "clean coal" kids annoying you? Like seriously, those little kids know NOTHING about what they're being paid to say. There is no such thing as clean coal. The oil companies know that they will be eliminated if alternative renewable energy companies start showing up, so they're trying to tell people that they're still cool.
Senate passed an energy bill, but…? Why would Republicans feel the need to block tax incentives for renewable energy and clean fuels? To keep oil companies from paying $29 billion over 10 years??? Heck, that’s not as much as oil company CEOs gets in bonus during the same time frame. Just who’s money are they “protecting” anyway? http://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/06/21/congress.energy.ap/index.html?eref=rss_topstories
Why is it most of the time when the house tries to pass a bill that would help American people its blocked? Take for example the energy bill that was just blocked. It required increased MPG standards for vehicles. It would have rolled back tax cuts for oil companies (like they need any help). Also, it would have started to push us towards oil independence because of renewable energy requirements? In conclussion> it seems like anything that doesn't benefit corporations profit is always blocked. Why did it get this way and why don't people try to change this.
Can we find a better word for certain energy resources than "renewable"? Yesterday I cruised Yahoo's best answers and saw a question about the most efficient renewable resources. The answer chosen as best may have been the best of those given. I wasn't much impressed. To me the word "renewable" applies to corn-based ethanol, switch grass and the like. When one brings up wind, geothermal, electromagnetic, solar, tidal, hydroelectric, or any reliably recurring natural force, the term "virtually unlimited" strikes me as being more accurate. This answerer had abandoned hydroelectric because it kills fish. If current methods of tapping this resource kill fish, let's fix our methods, not give up on the resource. Same with solar power. The answer I saw dismissed solar power as "not worth mentioning" later citing occasonal cloud cover as a problem. I believe in human ingenuity. Someone has invented or could invent a solar battery that could power Manhatten through a month of overcast if power and oil companies would sponser it. Fat chance, right?
why should we use renewable energies than non-renewable.? Producing green electricity from otherwise harmful greenhouse gas fuels is core to the ENER·G Group's renewable energy business - hence why the ENER·G Group is the UK's leading independent Landfill Gas Generation Company. Landfill gas is a resource to be profitably harnessed and our unique modular approach enables local authorities and waste companies to maximise the methane gas resource available on Landfill sites by expertly matching capacity to the gas curve of the site. ENER·G's flexible procurement options make our technology available without the need for capital outlay; offering our clients risk-free developments and income. Indeed because we then manage the extraction of gas from the site, we effectively take away a problem and provide a substantial risk-free income in return. Additionally, our wide ranging expertise includes the generation of electricity from a range of alternative fuels including mines gas
How can we,a small company from Romania/Timisoara,to promote the "green"energy/alternate energy? Details about our Company: S.C.BALKANHYDROENERGY was established to produce and distribute power by making use of renewable energy sources:hydro sources and wind sources. HYDRO energy:mounting, rehabilitation, modernization of micro-hydro plants with Pe smaller than 10MWe,projects completed as turn-key projects. WIND energy:mounting of wind plants in locations with wind potential from Banat. SERVICES:identification of locations with power potential, aquiring of authorizations from the authorities, coordination of conducting feasability studies and technical projects, identification of financing sources and securing financing, monitoring construction site works with authorized staff, commisioning, maintenance, guarantees of services. 4 CORE PROJECTS: Rehabilitation of a 3x0,4 MWe microhydro plant in Timisoara Mounting of a 650 KWe microhydroplant in County of Caras-Severin. Mounting of a 400 KWe and 250 KWe microhydro plants in County of Valcea.
First cap and trade and now blocking renewable energy - are Republicans becoming the UnGreen Party? With gas prices now averaging a record $4.04 a gallon in the United States, the Senate voted on two bills Tuesday that would have revoked tax breaks for Big Oil and extended tax credits to renewable energy. Proponents of the two measures touted them as vital for consumer relief and transition to new energy sources, but both measures failed to muster the 60 votes needed to proceed. The first vote, on the Consumer First Energy Act, fell short of cloture by a vote of 51-43. The second, on the Renewable Energy and Job Creation Act of 2008, failed by a vote of 50-44. Both votes fell largely along party lines. Trade organizations that represent renewable-energy firms on the Hill say they're already seeing a slowing of growth in the sector because companies are hesitant to start new projects without the assurance that these credits will be available. http://gristmill.grist.org/tag/Muckraker/ With Senate Republicans now blocking renewable energy, are they becoming the UnGreens?
Why do the rebublicans love oil companies ? In February, the House passed the Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation Act to end unnecessary subsidies to Big Oil companies and invest in clean, renewable energy and energy efficiency. 174 Republicans voted against this critical legislation to make America more energy independent. President Bush has threatened to veto the bill. [H.R. 5351, 2/27/08 – Vote #84]
Congress gets it wrong on energy!? Congress gets it wrong on energy! Again Congress seems intent to pass a regressive energy bill — despite the pleas of their constituents for releif at the pump. The truth is that, short of a moratorium on federal gas taxes, there is very little Congress can do to provide short-term releif at the pump but they could help ensure plentifiul supplies of oil and gas — and thus lower prices — in the future, but instead they seem intent to make our situation worse. The National Petroleum Council recently released a report http://www.npc.org/7-18_Press_rls-post.pdf painting a fairly bleak picture for the world's energy supply and demand equation. One way Congress could help would be to remove hurdles to domestic oil production on public lands like ANWR and on the OCS and from non-traditional sources like oil shale and coal to oil. Despite what industry proponents argue, these sources don't need subsidies or a price floor to get going (but who doesn't want guaranteed profit if they can get Congress to give it to them), but they do need the government to reduce hurdles to development on public lands — and more importantly, not make the situation worse with new legislative roadblocks or make the investment situation worse by rescinding reasonable standards for the depreciation of new equipment. In light of high prices and declining domestic production, in the 2005 energy bill Congress sought to encourage new production by expediting the leasing of new oil and gas wells on public lands and off-shore by giving new funding and fast-track authority to the Bureau of Land Management and the Minerals Management Service, while reducing the bureaucratic paperwork requirements in order to ensure that proposals for new production were assessed, and contracts written, in a timely fashion – a statutory deadline for approval was built into the law. In addition, in order to encourage companies to build expensive, new platforms in high risk areas in the hurricane prone gulf of mexico, where dry wells are not uncommon, the government decided to treat oil and gas companies on the same par as renewable energy firms, allowing them to write off or accelerate the depreciation on capital equipment for new investments in production in the Gulf of Mexico. The new Democratic Congress wants to take all that away. In order to increase revenues to the government to fund their green priorities – none of which will bring much energy online and so help consumers – they wish to end the accelerated depreciation, extend the time federal agencies have to consider new leases and increase the paperwork hurdles. Each of these steps will discourage or slow the development of new oil and gas projects and thus slow (or even halt in some cases) the delivery of new oil and gas resources to the marketplace – high prices will remain high or rise as we become even more dependent on foreign energy supplies. In addition, they want to impose higher fees on new production and, not allow energy companies unwilling to renegotiate leases drawn up under the Clinton Administration to bid on new leases. When energy prices were low and new domestic production cost more than companies could make, the Clinton administration, in order to encourage continued exploration, wrote off-shore leases that that did not require companies to pay royalties. Now, when prices are high, the government wants to force companies to break their contract, and pay royalties on oil produced in the past. This does nothing to produce new oil, shows government to be an unreliable partner thus giving companies less assurance when dealing with the government that the deals written will be kept, and will likely keep well qualified companies from bidding on new leases. Under this deal, unless qualified companies accede to extortion, they will not be able to get new leases, which means there will be less competition and less production (or higher priced production). Only Congress could think this will help our energy situation. Worst of all, these policies will be most damaging to the poorest of the poor. They amount to a hidden tax on the most vulnerable among us. Families earning more than $50,000 per year spend just 4 percent of their income to cover all energy costs. By comparison, households earning between $10,000 and $25,000 per year spend 13 percent on their income on energy overall, and families earning below $10,000 per year spend as much as 29 percent of their incomes on energy. While the relatively wealthy can afford higher gas prices with little impact on their lifestyles – they will still take vacations, and don’t have to decide between food, medication and fuel – poorer households are beginning to make that trade-off every day. This bill will do nothing to reduce energy prices or produce more energy and it will impose unconscionable new costs on the poorest among us.
Talking Big about Renewable Energy? I have always wondered why so many talk renewables up so much, but very few actually buy much of it? Dual or off the Grid power solutions are very expensive, for a normal conventional wood structured house, it starts around $20k for an off the grid, or strong dual system. Alternative green houses can make better use (needing less power, and for that a cheaper solution), but even those houses are not being sought after for construction (yet you hear that 'We' should be building them--demand and supply tells the truth that they are not popular). Even when people have real choice, if their electric markets are deregulated, and companies like Green Mountain Power comes in, most still go with the cheaper power, than the clean power, pretty much for the same reason they go into Wal-Mart, but demand that we stop off-shoring all our jobs. It's like renewables are more talk, and very little action. Why bother talking it, if nothing is going to happen?
Riddl me this, Riddle Me that? What is the most abundant convertable energy in the Cosmos and on Earth? Check this out. The most abundant source of energy is all the photons from the Sun and all the stars in the known Galaxy. I quote this info from Mark Goldes, who has researched and proven that we can extract photonic power from the space time fabric. Photons are evenly spread through out all space. Plus you can generate 20 times the power than solar 24/7. Look below... Magnetic Power Inc’s mission is to supply the world with clean, abundant, and inexpensive electricity. The company is developing technology it calls Magnetic Power ModulesTM. Based upon proprietary breakthrough discoveries in MPI's labs, Magnetic Power Modules are being designed that operate continuously, without fuel, extracting electricity by converting an abundant, renewable energy source that exists everywhere in the universe. The process will create no pollution. The cost of electricity is estimated to be significantly less than any competing form of power generation today or in the foreseeable future. who are the alternative energy suppliers globally? A company in South Africa requires an affordable product that will be integrated with a low cost housing scheme. Specifications must be of a renewable energy source and adaptable to a small to medium household.
How man kWh does a house hold use? I just leased my first house and I am trying to decide which energy company to use. All the information I found is based on 1,000 kWh a month. I don't know if that is alot more than a house would use or alot less. We have a 3 bed room house, 2 stories, average size, and only 2 working adults live there. I need to figure out if using one company that is 10 cents more a kWh is a huge difference in the long run or not....I am trying to show my husband that it is better to use the companies with renewable energy...but so far I don't even know....Thanks
