Do oil companies really own the world?

Oil is one of the most precious commodities in the world. But do Oil companies really have as much power and control as the liberals would have us believe? Do they really influence elections, have certain politicians on their payroll, obstruct the development of the electric car and are they really buying up all the renewable energy companies? Or is this all conspiratorial liberalist bullshit? In response to a comment on the electric car: Look, I'm sure it's possible to build an electric car that's much more efficient than the ones that have been released commercially. Think about the other stuff electricity does and you're telling me that nobody has been able build something that rotates 2 axels at a high speed and carries people around without having to charge every few miles? I find that hard to believe.

2. If you had the list of the top 10 companies (profits) You don't run into an oil company til number 6 or 7.

5. No. They don't even own the oil. Most oil reserves are state-owned - though companies do make big proffits in 'exploration and development' contracts with those governments.

8. i haven't heard anyone ever say that. i imagine the banks own quite a bit more. i know chase/Manhattan etc practically owns mexico.
9. Well, let me see, in the past 17 years we have had two "Big Oil " Presidents. They are father and son, and both have engaged in wars in the Middle East. The first lasted a matter of days, although the build up was much greater, and the latter well, going on 5 years so far. As far as electric cars, you should do some research into Nikolai Tesla. If he hadn't been wrongfully discredited by his competition, Edison, Westinghouse, and a few others. We would have had free energy over a hundred years ago. Funny thing all his documents were ceased by our federal govt. Gherd is right though, it is more the Banks. But don't believe me, do some research into the Federal Reserve system in America. I'll tell you this much, its neither Federal, nor a Reserve. Its a friggin private bank that our government continually borrows money from. I'll let you figure out what the collateral is.

13. The world runs on coal and oil (for the most part) The oil company's have power as long as oil powers the world. Influence Elections ? - No ! they don't have to. Politicians on payroll ? - No ! they don't need to do that, that would be a waste of profits. Obstruct the electric car that only get 90 miles to a charge at best ? - That's silly talk. The oil company's have real power, not the kind you have to buy or steal. The have power because the world is addicted to oil. And when we take our 9 mile to the gallon SUV's to the gas station we are paying with our hard earned money to keep them in power. Nothing Liberal about that.
