Burning Energy

Looking for a course in renewable energy?

Hey ya Folks, Just a quick Q.. I am looking to do a course in renewable energy, (mainly interested in Wind and also Solar) either as a distant learning course, or part time one based in Ireland..Is there any uni or collage that does offer a diploma, short cert or any sort of course.. But not one of those 2/3 day things.. Something with abit more meat, but not over a yr long.. Oh.. It would also have to have some sort of award attached to it, fetac, city n guilds etc etc... cause I want to go into field sales rep for either a wind turbine or solar energy companies and learn from the ground upwards... King regards Will Griffith...........

  1. I have a little info that might help. Fossil fuels is a renewable energy source. The fossil oil comes from fossil plants not animal. The plants capture the energy from the sun and store it in the oil of the seeds. The plants is where our present supply came from and the plants will contiue to produce oil & gas for several million years if they have CO2. So we will never run out of fossil fuels.
  2. If you are serious about it, start from the bottom maybe with a gcse or a level. Im doing a level in Enviromental Science Its awsome :)
  3. Have a look at the Centre for Alternative Technology www.cat.org.uk They do a variety of courses centred around renewable living. I did a short biodiesel course a couple of years ago and was very impressed. One chap on the course had come over from Ireland and was also looking to do a course on ground scource heating. I think they do degree courses in association with exeter Uni.
  4. Agree with your previous answerer - even if CAT don't offer a course as such they are probably the best resource to point you in the right direction, as they will help you evaluate what's out there - whether you want something very academic such as a uni masters degree in renewables (i.e. are they a Good Thing, what's out there) or something more hands on, perhaps a course in installing the various systems offered by one of the companies that supplies them
